COVID triage machine 3000

For possible exposure, symptoms, or needing a COVID test for whatever reason.

Definitions

  • Patient: the person you are looking for advice or testing for (eg your child).

  • Index case: the contagious person who exposed the patient to COVID, if applicable (eg the patient’s friend, parent, sibling, etc).

Let’s get started!

Does the patient have a COVID exposure in the past 14 days?

Notes:

*Exposure = Close contact (< 6 feet) with a COVID-positive case during their period of contagiousness, either via cumulative 15 or more minutes over 24 hours OR any direct exchange of secretions (kissing, sharing drinks, being sneezed on). Period of contagiousness = from 2 days before they have any symptoms (or if no symptoms, 2 days before their test was collected), until they meet the criteria for ending isolation. (Isolation recommendations recently updated).

*Unconfirmed exposure = any exposure you’re concerned about that doesn’t meet the definition of “confirmed exposure”. For example, your child played with someone who has symptoms but wasn’t yet tested, or their test results are pending. Or an exposure to a confirmed case, but the exposure was less than 15 minutes, or just above 6 feet.

Same-day appointments

For urgent needs, same-day appointments are available Monday through Friday. Please call as early in the day as possible, the more notice we have the easier it is to fit everyone in.

Need help outside of office hours?

Firstly, if your child has an emergency, please call 911 or go directly to the ER - they will contact us if needed once your child has been evaluated.

Urgent Care centers can also be helpful when something needs to be seen outside of office hours but it's not an emergency.

For our list of preferred Urgent Cares and ERs, see our resources page.

And if you have something that might need urgent attention but you're not sure/don't know what to do, we can help:
